PCC Group Establishes a New Company in Malaysia and Expands Operation in Asia

On 11 September 2020, PCC SE began cooperation with PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) to launch joint production of specialized chemicals in Malaysia.

PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) is a leading integrated manufacturer of chemicals in Malaysia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia.
PCG’s core business is the manufacture, marketing, and sale of chemical products, including polymers, olefins, methanol, fertilizers, and other basic chemicals and their derivatives.
The new partner acquired a 50% stake in our Malaysian design company, PCC Oxyalkylates Malaysia Sdn.
Bhd.
(PCC-OM).
This company was created with a view to expansion of the PCC Group in the very promising region of Asia.
The aim of the project was to expand business by using the extensive know-how in the area of production of polyols and surfactants in new markets.

Cooperation with PETRONAS will undoubtedly allow the PCC Group to develop dynamically thanks to the combined potential of both companies and access to the oxyalkylate markets in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific.
This will enable the PCC Group to expand one of its main areas of operation in these regions of the world.

The planned location for the new investment project is at the Kerteh petrochemical complex in Terengganu, where PCG operates as part of the PETRONAS oil and gas company.
It will manufacture specialized chemicals belonging to the group of oxyalkylates – ethoxylates and polyether polyols.
The first of these two product groups are modern surfactants used, among others, in the production of detergents, cosmetics, personal care products, and body care products.
The second group includes raw materials for the production of polyurethane foams for the furniture industry, automotive industry, and other industries that use polyurethanes.

Another result of the cooperation will be a modern R&D center which is to be established in Malaysia, and which will bring about a dynamic development of the product portfolio and provide customers with a high level of innovation in the design and implementation of chemical products.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2021, while production should start in 2023.
